Qatar Diplomat In U.S. Terrorism Scare Released

Video: Police Release Smoker in Plane Scare

Mohammed Al-Madadi, the Qatar diplomat that caused a scare on a U.S. plane in Colorado yesterday, has been released, after being detained for allegedly attempting to ignite a shoe bomb.

It is now being claimed it was a misunderstanding, due to the diplomat having gone to the bathroom to illegally smoke a cigarette. When confronted about the smoke emanating from the airplane toilet, believing he had been racially profiled, he reportedly joked he was attempting to set off a shoe bomb.

If this version of events are true, under the circumstances, such a joke is not funny. In light of the airplane tragedies that have happened as a result of terrorism, with one occurring just 3 and 1/2 months ago, such a joke is insensitive.

Mohammed Al-Madadi should face disciplinary action in his home country for smoking on a plane and making such a joke, which resulted in a national emergency, money expended on law enforcement and military response and more importantly, distress to fellow passengers. Why was he smoking in the bathroom when it is prohibited.

Officials: Jet restroom smoker caused bomb scare

50 minutes ago - DENVER — A Middle Eastern diplomat who set off a national terrorism scare when he grabbed a surreptitious smoke in a jetliner's bathroom and then joked about lighting his shoe on fire has been released from custody and will likely not face criminal charges.

The scare prompted the military to scramble fighter jets to escort the Boeing 757 to the Denver airport Wednesday night. But no explosives were found on the flight.

Authorities speaking on condition of anonymity said they don't think the envoy was trying to hurt anyone and he will not be criminally charged...

Child Directed Airplane Traffic In New York

Kennedy Airport

Apparently, the current recession turned depression, is hitting air traffic controllers harder than the public realized, as child labor was informally employed when a boy was heard directing planes at Kennedy Airport in New York.

According to the Associated Press, "An air traffic controller at New York's Kennedy Airport was suspended for allowing his young son to radio instructions to several pilots."

The Judiciary Report does not think the air traffic controller meant any harm, but as it was a safety violation, he was suspended. However, he should not lose his job.

Audio indicates kid directed planes at NY airport

NEW YORK — An air traffic controller at New York's Kennedy Airport was suspended for allowing his young son to radio instructions to several pilots. The few quick exchanges between the elementary-school-aged child and jets waiting to take off from JFK, one of the nation's busiest airports, appeared to delight pilots at the time...

"JetBlue 171 cleared for takeoff," the boy says in his first call. His father follows that up with a more detailed instruction for the aircraft, which was headed to Sacramento, Calif. He then offers an explanation to pilots on the air: "This is what you get, guys, when the kids are out of school."

In a second exchange, the boy instructs the same JetBlue flight to contact departure controllers. The pilot responds: "Over to departure JetBlue 171, awesome job!"

There are a few more similar exchanges. A pilot laughs. The boy can be overheard giggling. In his last call, the youngster signs off, "Adios, amigo." The pilot responds in kind...

New Luxury Planes To Dubai

Some smart aleck airline, *cough* United, decided to introduce luxury planes to Dubai. I don't know about you guys, but I like my airline travel the old fashioned way - your butt falls asleep, because it's been uncomfortably sitting in the same spot for 2 hours, then you try to fall asleep, but your head keeps nudging forward and waking you up with mild whiplash and when you finally land, you are so worn out after your flight, you come off the plane looking like you have rickets. Now that's air travel. Pain is the new luxury (not).

Side Bar: To all the other airlines reading this, I'm totally kidding about the rickets thing. Do not bump me from future flights over this article. Love you (smiles sweetly).
